- Nortel Networks new i2004 Internet Telephone delivers traditional business
communications functionality and value, in a standards-based, open platform.
This new Internet Telephone joins our full range of desktop devices that
includes fully featured traditional digital telephones, IP phones, USB phones
and software clients running on a PC, all designed to meet diverse customer
needs and enrich people-to-people communications in Unified Networks. Internet
Telephones are directly connected to the LAN, allowing customers to capitalize
on the economies of a simplified wiring system within the enterprise. Users
are provided the features and services they require, and the enterprise
can balance needs for user functionality with benefits of streamlined management
and reduced facilities costs.
The i2004 Internet Telephone provides seamless operation with today’s high
value business communications services. The i2004 will evolve to include
new value-added services, such as voice activated dialing, corporate and
personal directory services, and user-based customization of their communications
desktops. Services provided on the i2004 can be customized to specific business
needs using any of the open interfaces on Nortel Networks Connection Managers.

Common across multiple platforms:
i2004 Internet Telephones are supported on multiple Nortel Networks Connection
Manager platforms and on customer-premise and carrier-based equipment. The
unique characteristics provided of its call server platform enable the i2004
Internet Telephone to meet target market requirements. This is in addition
to its standard suite of business features. And, the i2004 Internet Telephone
is designed for global application with the support of international characters.
Standards-based:
The i2004 Internet Telephone in conjunction with a proxy server behaves
like MGCP and H.323 devices. Nortel Networks will work with the IETF and
other industry players to establish a standard, stimulus-based protocol
for IP telephony that is optimized for low-cost, wide deployment of Internet
Telephones as required for enterprise applications. The Succession i2004
Internet Telephone is designed for flexibility, supporting firmware upgrades
as standards and features evolve. Note: The i2004 Internet Telephone is
a common platform applicable to the Business Communications Manager, M6500,
Meridian 1 and Succession Communication Server for Enterprise products. |
